Genital Warts, the low down
At Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic we have great interest in treating genital warts. Our doctor has been active in treating genital warts since the mid 90’s when he ran the Wellman Clinic in Dublin. We understand that although genital warts are a sexually transmitted disease their existence and appearance impacts directly on the confidence and wellbeing of people involved. We have the expertise and the means to manage genital warts in a confidential and private setting. Sexually transmissible infections (STD or also known as STI) are passed on from one person to another during sexual contact. Anyone can be infected from a single sexual encounter with an infected person, let it be manual foreplay, oral sex (either fellatio or cunnilingus), genital contact (superficial, vaginal and anal).
Genital warts, also known as venereal warts or condylomata acuminata, are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases.
As the name suggests, genital warts affect intimate tissues of the genital area. They may look like small, flesh-coloured bumps or have a cauliflower-like appearance. Genital warts may be very small, or they may multiply into large clusters.
There are two types of Genital warts. Molluscum Contigiosum, discoid like in appearance and has only one sub-type. The second is Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a cauliflower shaped wart that has many sub-types. Of these types 8 & 11 are associated with cervical cancer and squamous cell carcinoma. Genital warts have an incubation period of 8 days to 8 months or even longer. They are highly infectious and display auto-infectivity.
At Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin we understand that no treatment is for genital warts is 100% effective and all treatment options are based on the destruction of the visible lesions. We offer treatment for men. At Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin we offer the full range of genital warts either HPV or Molluscum treatments. An initial assessment is required to diagnose genital warts and the reveal the extent of the condition.
Caustic Acids (Podophyllin 2% and 5% and Imiquimod Cream) are popular offering success in less than half of the affected lesions and generally have low outcome satisfaction rate.
Liquid nitrogen cryotherapy has a higher success rate of eradication at 68%. The procedure involves superfreezing the lesion to -80ْ C. Several treatments are required at fortnightly intervals.
Hyfrecation short wave diathermy (SWD) procedure offers a higher eradicating rate. At Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin the SWD procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. We should expect confidence rating of more than 90% in clearing the visible genital warts.
Laser ablation of genital warts is an advanced procedure and we are happy to provide the laser treatment at Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin as the gold standard and most effective treatment for genital warts. The powerful yet precise fractional CO2 laser vaporises the wart lesions and yields a near 100% success rate. The fractional CO2 laser treatment of genital warts is a procedure that is performed under local anaesthesia.
