Fat dissolving Injections
Injection lipolysis is a cosmetic procedure where fat is dissolved using medications. Lipodissolve is injected where it breaks down unwanted fat in a process called emulsification. Our bodies remove emulsified fat through metabolic pathways. The fat dissolving injections we use contain phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate (PCDC). These two compounds found their way into aesthetic medicine when their benefits were seen during intravenous therapy for fat embolism.
Science behind Lipodissolve
In 1966, investigators noted that the intravenous infusion of PC-containing solutions could remove fat embolism. The compounds were safe and efficient in dissolving localised fat deposits. Later, a drug formulation called Lipostabil containing 5% PC and 4.75% deoxycholate (DC) was approved in Germany and used in the treatment of fat embolism, dyslipidemia and alcohol-induced liver cirrhosis. These findings were observed first in Colombia back in 2004.
Dr Kahlout at Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin is a member of Network Lipolysis since 2006. The first report of lipodissolve injection for fat removal demonstrated that infra-orbital (“under the eyelid”) fat could be removed by fat dissolving injections. While no placebo-controlled studies have demonstrated safety or efficacy of this therapy, numerous retrospective studies of Kybella and Libostabil injections reported good efficacy. The mixture is injected directly into the subcutaneous fat using multiple micro-needle injections.
Fat Dissolving Injections
Lipodissolve treatment is the latest weight loss procedure that gets rid of excess fat. It is a non- surgical procedure where a series of chemical injections are given to patients some call it as an alternative to Liposuction. The chemical solution’s main ingredient is phosphatidyclcholine (PPC). PPC is FDA approved and produced from soy lecithin. Lecithin has been medically tested and proven to have the capability to break down fat and reduce cholesterol. It was first used to treat patients with high risk of heart disease.
Lipodissolve treatment has no long term risks or complications. We expect injection area reaction. These include minor side effects like itchiness, transient lumpiness under the skin, and bruising. A few hours after the treatment patients experience redness and swelling which lasts for a week or so.
Fat Dissolving Suitability
Lipodissolve is offered by Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin to patients who want to get rid of unwanted small fat deposits in but don’t want to undergo surgery. It is a popular medical procedure ever since Kybella was promoted through social media influencers. During the procedure the chemical solution is injected to targeted areas. It starts to work immediately breaking down and emulsifying fats cells. It turns fat it into liquid soluble fatty acids that are flushed out from the body through metabolic pathways.
To achieved best results patients should undergo a 4-6 injection treatments depending on the target area each session will last up to 20 to 30 minutes. Lipodissolve is only effective in targeting small and localised region of the body that stay unaffected by proper diet and regular exercise. Its result cannot be compared to VASER Liposuction and liposuction which can deliver substantial once off results by physically removing fats from the body. Fat dissolving injection is a minimally invasive injection therapy which is best suited to remove fat from small defined areas like the neck, chin, bra bulge and banana rolls. Although larger areas respond to the treatment, results are very subtle and liposuction alternative is favoured.
Areas Suitable for Fat Dissolving
Fat dissolving injections are a great alternative to liposuction when it comes to dealing with small areas. Most suitable for under chin localised fat deposit region called the submental area. Some people require extending the treatment to adjacent jawline areas for better side angle profile definition. Another popular area is a collection of fatty tissue between the armpit and breast. It is an area troublesome for women bulging our over the bra cup. For this reason its referred to as bra bulge. The last area we treat with fat dissolving injections is the banana roll. That’s an area between the buttocks and the upper thigh.
Lipodissolve is Not Recommended for:
Pregnancy and breast feeding
Treatment cost depends on the the amount of lipodissolve required and the size of the area to be treated. An average 2 to 3 treatment sessions are required for best results.
