Change of weather often calls for change of wardrobe to winter clothes but also it calls for change of skincare routine. During the winter months our magic wand starts with considering that colder weather causes dry skin leading to broken shabby texture. Moisturising regularly help substitute the lack of moisture in the air. Remember that winter sun also causes photo-aging, even if it’s dull and raining. So on with the SPF and protect from that unwanted winter sun-damage. Why not consider broadband photofacials light laser treatment to get rid of accumulated sun-damage and micro-vessels over the summer brighter weather.

Winter may be the best time to undergo cosmetic procedures

Though many complain about their complexion during the winter, it appears as though the colder season may be the best time to undergo a variety of skin-related cosmetic procedures. Tanned skin may be resistant to many laser procedures, including the removal of sun spots, hyperpigmentation or addressing unwanted hair.

The winter also offers more opportunities to cover-up scars and other side effects as one heals from a cosmetic procedure, such as spider and thread vein treatment by sclerotherapy. Vein treatments require compression stockings for up to 3 days and tend to look worse, before they get better.

Many people exfoliate all year round using light techniques such as laser photofacial or chemical peels. Both have virtually no side effects, do not require anesthetic, is ideal for skin that is sensitive and can give skin a healthy-looking glow.

Choosing to undergo stronger facial resurfacing with fractional CO2 laser which requires a week of at-home healing and limited exposure to UV rays is also easier. The early sunset, holiday time and layers of clothing during the winter naturally compliments the healing process.

Cosmetic surgery statistics from the British College of Aesthetic Medicine show a steady increase in laser and facial rejuvenation procedures over the past decade.
Our new skin analysis machine is brilliant at identifying these imperfections and blemishes in order to formulate a proper method of treatment for them.

Why not try it the next time you’re at Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin where your journey starts with advanced skin analysis to see what’s best for you!

Collagen Creams: Are they a waste of money?

Collagen creams that line the shelves of many cosmetics stores claim to eliminate wrinkles after a few applications. However, many scientists agree that these anti-aging products do not work and are a waste of money!

Though the creams do contain collagen, the molecules of the collagen are so large that only a few make it through the skin. The rest stay on one’s face until the cream is washed off or rubbed away. Well, they skin will at least feel smooth while they’re on…

It really frustrates me when I see advertisements for anti-wrinkle creams containing collagen. Although collagen is structurally important for the integrity of our skin, the protein molecule is far too large to pass through the barrier posed by the skin.

However, there are cosmetic procedures that do help eliminate the appearance of wrinkles. According to the American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine (A4M) autologous, injectable, dermal collagen can be injected into frown lines and depressed scars, as well as the fine lines around one’s mouth.
The procedure is done with a small needle and does not require general anaesthesia. AIDC is made from the patient’s skin, minimizing the likelihood of the body rejecting the substance.

However similar results are usually achieved by injecting highly purified synthetic dermal fillers without the expense of extracting one’s own collagen and preparing it for injection.
Photofacial Laser light containing broad band up to 1200nm has the ability to enhance natural collagen production resulting in tighter skin pores and plumber skin.
Approved highly purified synthetic dermal fillers and neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin also help with the treatment of wrinkles and aging. To find out more information, pick up the phone or discuss the options with me at your next visit.
