Naso-Labial Lines
This is one of those terms that’s pretty self-explanatory; “naso” means the nose and “labial” refers to your mouth and lips. Patients come to see us at Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin with different nasolabial folds and lines. In general these lines start at the sides of the nose and extend to the sides of your lips. No matter what age you are, these lines will be shown during facial expressions. But starting as early as your twenties, they may start to turn permanent. If you smile in the mirror and study your face, you will notice the folds appear when your cheeks bunch up during smiling. However this should not alarm you – these lines are completely normal. If you need further proof of this, just look at a smiling child. In fact, if you smiled and didn’t have them, it would look abnormal and unnatural.
Injections Treatment
Nasolabial folds are the indentation lines on either side of the mouth that extend from the edge of the nose to the mouth’s outer corners. They become more prominent when people smile. These folds also tend to deepen with age.
Nasolabial folds are caused by loss of deep fat and subsequent loss of muscle contour in the mid-face, leading to sagging which forms cosmetic issues in some cases when they are otherwise overly pronounced. Various treatment procedures have been developed to reduce their appearance.
Dermal filler injection is probably the easiest, most effective way to get rid of deep naolabial wrinkles. Post injection downtime is minimal – usually just a little swelling. On the other hand they are not permanent. They can last from 8 to 12 months depending on dermal filler used.
Which Nasolabial Folds Filler
The most popular injections used are Restylane, Juvederm and Teosyal. These are made using synthetic hyaluronic acid – which is a substance similar to collagen that is naturally found in your skin. Although there are a few other longer lasting injections offered like Radiesse and Ellanse. These are brilliant dermal fillers. However, I would advise against them in people with thin skin because they use substances like calcium-based micro-spheres, which feel harder in this central face areas.
HYALURONIC ACID
HA-based fillers like Juvéderm Voluma and Restylane Lyft are high G-Prime fillers. The have the ability to lift skin better than softer fillers. They are suitable alternatives for those who would rather shorter duration of correction, 8-10 months or consider reversible effect. The most popular injections used are Restylane, Juvederm and Teosyal.
Ellanse
Ellanse is a fabulous dermal filler from France. It is most suitable for deep augmentation in people seeking long term naso-labial folds enhancement. Ellansé is a unique dermal filler lasting up to 4 years. Ellansé dermal filler is injected in a similar manner to Radiesse with results being immediate and long lasting.
Radiesse
Radiesse provides natural definition by restoring a more youthful-looking appearance. Provides immediate lift and definition by restoring lost volume in areas of the upper face and replicates the body’s process of generating collagen. Radiesse can last up to a year or more in many patients.
Surgery
There are many different surgical procedures which can help get rid of not only your nasolabial fold problem, but also other deep wrinkles. It used to be that cosmetic face lift surgery was a very costly and invasive procedure to go through. While this may be true for the full operation, there are many other newer versions available today which are involve minimal downtime and are much more affordable.
There is also a relatively new technique called the Mini-facelift which just like the name implies, involves a very short recovery period. With this minimally invasive surgery, the doctor makes tiny incisions and pass an endoscope like tool. From there skin and tissue can be lifted and supported with internal stitches. There are only two tiny incisions in the hairline which close in a day or two. Because of the minimal downtime, natural results, and discreet scarring, it’s no wonder many celebrities are turning to endoscopic minilift face lifting surgery for their facial rejuvenation.
