Celebrity Botox!

Celebrities Who Had Botox Injections

It’s been ten years since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration first approved botulinum toxin made by Allergan for use on wrinkles. Between then and April 15, 2002 a lot has happened. High-profile lawsuits, medical breakthroughs, tragedies, controversies, reality TV segments and trout pout lips. Hollywood royalty may have been the first to jump on the wrinkle/filler trend but it was years before they actually admitted it. For years their M.O. was “Deny” but as the rest of the country has caught up with the trend, stars are finally letting their guard down, if not their forehead skin.

A glass of red wine a day…

on your face?

You’ve probably read your fair share of articles about the anti-ageing benefits of a glass of red wine. The beverage contains a natural antioxidant known as resveratrol, which can slow the some of the ageing processes, including the formation of wrinkles on the face. Some marketers and spas are attempting to sell resveratrol in various skincare products that can be rubbed onto the face. Does applying the ingredient directly to the skin offer the same benefits as ingesting it? CBS News recently did some digging to find out.

How does resveratrol work?

There have been many studies that investigate the properties of resveratrol, including some that look specifically into red wine as a method of consuming the ingredient. Dr. Joseph Maroon, author of “The Longevity Factor: How Resveratrol and Red Wine Activate Genes for a Longer and Healthier Life,” explains that the agent is one of 600 antimicrobial compounds known as phytoalexin. These compounds are produced by plants and can help ward off the harmful effects of ultraviolet light, infections and changes in climate.

While many studies have looked into the benefits of ingesting resveratrol, the news outlet reports that research looking into the antioxidant’s effects when applied externally is harder to come by. A study from the National Institutes of Health in 2005, however, did investigate the matter by applying the compound to the skin of laboratory animals, and then exposing the animals to high ultraviolet radiations.

It was a very good sunblock,” Dr. Maroon told the news source. “It might be the ultimate sunblock for both plants and animals. In animals, it was shown to help prevent the development of skin cancer.”

But does this mean it will have the same effect on humans? Maybe, according to a 2011 study from the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology. In this instance, participants rubbed a gel containing resveratrol on their skin once a day for 30 days, reports CBS News. At the conclusion of the study, individuals who used the gel were found to have a 54% reduction in acne.

However, it’s important to note that this study looked at regular use of resveratrol, which should make one think twice about signing up for a spa treatment that involves a one-time (and pricey) “red wine bath.”

Read my lips: No more trout pout…

People say the eyes are windows to the soul, but if you want to figure out how someone’s feeling without gazing lovingly into their eyes, there’s a different body part that gives you a quick answer – the mouth. A smile, a frown, pursed lips or an open O-shape are expressions that give away one’s emotions. Unfortunately, certain factors can affect the appearance of our mouth. Some people naturally have thin or tight lips, and ageing adds wrinkles around the mouth, however the answer is not a trout pout lip!

That’s why many people opt for lip augmentation, not just to correct issues with the lips, but to enhance one’s natural appearance. A recent Science Daily release discussed the trend of lip augmentation, and offered a few tips for those interested in the procedure.

Typical signs of ageing that prompt a lip augmentation involve a drooping around the mouth, and lip lines that go beyond the red part of the lips.

How trout pout can be unnatural

Usually when doctors talk about lip augmentation, they are referring to a procedure involving the injection of hyaluronic acid to enlarge and plump the lips. These injection dermal fillers plump in depressed areas around the mouth, or they may stimulate collagen production, which naturally enhance the lips. This is caused naturally by the ageing process, but can be accelerated by years of smoking or excessive exposure to the sun without protection.

Many cosmetic doctors tend to opt for lighter injections the first time around, and then add more in a second treatment if necessary. This is because too much of an injection could lead to an unnatural look, a trout pout, something most cosmetic surgery patients want to avoid.

Trout Pout…No thanks

Patients can speak to a registered cosmetic doctor to help decide if they are a good candidate for the procedure. According to Science Daily, those who have a large space between the base of their nose and the beginning of their lips may not be the best candidates, as a procedure can create an unflattering “duck bill”, the dreaded trout pout look. There are still other options for treating signs of ageing around the mouth, such as botulinum toxin antwrinkle injections.

Temporary Procedure

Patients can expect their new look to last six months or longer. According to the British College of Aesthetic Medicine, lip augmentations offer minimal to no recovery time, meaning most patients can return to their normal activities immediately following the injection, or a day later if sedated. Patients who are curious about cosmetic surgery but are afraid of permanent commitments may want to consider lip augmentation, since the procedure is temporary.

The Procedure

The Mini Scar Free Lift for the face and neck; utilize dissolvable surgical sutures to lift and support lax layers of the skin. These tiny sutures are inserted in individually predetermined “vectors of lift” through tiny keyhole incision hidden in the hair-line. Using special instruments, the dissolvable sutures are placed in the appropriate tissue plane supporting the face without the need to cut the skin. Once inserted under the skin, they form a pull and support by gently lifting the skin into a more vertical and youthful position.

Due to the small keyhole entry points in the hairline and placement of the sutures in the deep layer of the skin, the surrounding tissues act to hold the sutures in place without the need for visible scars. The results are immediate. One or two tiny “3mm” keyhole incisions are made behind the hairline and the threads are advanced along the previously marked vector of counter-gravity pull deep in the skin sing specialised tools. They create a firm hold on the underlying tissues without causing trauma. The dissolvable sutures do the work of holding, by being fixated to deep tissue as they are softly anchored into place. Once in position, your body generates new collagen bundles that surround each suture to maintain the lifting effect for a long time to come.
