Eyebrow Lift

The concept of the ideal female eyebrow has changed over time. A study analysing ideal female brow characteristics as depicted in the Western print media between 1945 and 2011 was performed in this study published in Clinical Plastic Surgery Journal. This analysis provided objective evidence that the ideal youthful brow peak has migrated laterally over time to lie at the lateral canthus (outer corner of the eye).
The Ideal Female Eyebrow
The ideal female brow is located at or slightly above the eye socket rim (the superior bony margin of the orbit). It s lower in the middle than the outer part. The body gradually arches above the orbital rim the more outwards it is. The highest point of the arch lies between two vertical lines drawn through the outer edge of the iris and the outer corner of the eye. The female eyebrow then arches downward and ends just outside a line drawn from the edge of the nose through the outermost corner of the eye. The outer end of the eyebrow should ideally be at the level of or slightly above the middle end.

The Ideal Male Eyebrow
The ideal male brow is ideally located at the supra-orbital rim and is fairly flat. There is not much variation in the shape or thickness of the male eyebrow throughout its length. Male eyebrows are not usually trimmed. They feather into finer hairs at the tail. The world’s most famously handsome leading men such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Daniel Craig and Antonio Banderras all share the same defining features: a low and heavy brow, minor facial lines, a strong square jaw line and prominent chin.
Ageing Changes in the Female Eyebrow
The youthful female eyebrow is firm and wrinkle-free and is positioned in the middle of a gentle vertical arc from forehead to eyelid. There is a “Faberge Egg” of soft tissue and bone providing lift and support and the lateral end of the brow. As we age, our eyebrows do too. For instance, due to a loss of oestrogen, many women start to notice their eyebrows shortening, which in turn can make your face look older. Also, brows that are too thin or too arched can add years to the face.
As the female face ages, the eyebrows begin to descend. They do that due to volume loss in the soft tissue and bony structures of the face. There is downward drift and drooping of the brow. This causes lateral brow hooding featuring redundant eyelid skin. The hollow above the eyeball becomes less and less visible. It eventually disappears. This ageing process also leads to the formation of crow’s feet. These changes are particularly noticeable at the arch and the lateral end of the brow. This gives the female face a more masculinized appearance. Restoring the eyebrow shape and height is an essential part of facial rejuvenating procedures.
Chemical eyebrow lift

Horizontal lift
Three variants of non-surgical eyebrow lift could be achieved when using the muscle relaxing injections. The first is a horizontal lift, where the entire length of the eyebrow is encouraged to rise by about 5 to 10mm. When one is tired, the eyebrows descends lower, lifting the eyebrows horizontally will results in a fresher eyebrow look that is suitable for both men and women.
Lateral flare
The second eyebrow lift is more popular with women and is known as the lateral flare. In the lateral flare, the outer segment of the eyebrow is encouraged to lift upwards resulting in a more desired feminine appearance. The upward pull of the brow will further enhance smoothing of the crow’s feet and minimise upper eyelid hooding.
Lift with dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are used in the area above the eyebrow, known as the temporal ridge area. Small amounts are injected causing a vector of lift to the tail end of the brow. The results are instant. Given the delicate area treated, a soft cannula is used to inject the dermal filler instead of a needle. A moderate but appreciable natural lift is achieved.
