Dermal Fillers

Quality Dermal Fillers

As we age, collagen and elastin in the skin diminish. Skin cells lose their ability to produce those precious compounds in high enough concentration. As a result, the skin becomes thinner, drier, and less resilient. Skin repair due to damage from mechanical, gravitational or thermal injuries is slowed down. At Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin we have great understanding of the ageing face and how dermal fillers work. Loss of fullness leads to the skin getting looser. Facial appearance gaunt. Overall, these factors lead to development of wrinkles and an older look. Over time, micro adhesion bands from between the dermal and sub-dermal layers of the skin develop. Adhesion at the base of wrinkles, pull them even deeper. These adhesion bands “retinaclulae” anchor to deeper subcutaneous tissue causing folds.

Types of Fillers

At Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin we use a large range of aesthetic fillers. The most popular being hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers. During their manufacturing process Dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid are cross linked to various degrees. Cross linking the filler adds durability and texture to the HA. Depending on the amount of ‘cross-linking’ HA fillers can be made soft or firm, short or long lived. Inherent characteristics that differentiate one filler from another. Our the decision to choose one filler over the other depends on our understanding these variations affect certain corrections. Longer lasting fillers contain minerals that resist metabolism by the body. Hyaluronic acid containing fillers usually last from 4 to 12 months. Longer lasting fillers like Ellansé are expected last for 2 to 3 years.

Depending on the injection location, filler type and depth of placement influence how long a filler last for, months or even years. During your consultation at Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic Dublin, the doctor will inform you of the expected outcome.

Dermal Fillers Uses

Facial Areas
Dermal fillers are most commonly used in the lips, jowls, marionette lines, brows, cheeks, chins, naso-labial folds (the fold from the nose to the corners of the mouth), and in permanent frown lines. They are great for lines and wrinkles around the mouth. For those with acne scars, dermal fillers lift and correct. Speaking of lifting, eyebrow lift can also be achieved by placing dermal fillers support.

Tear Trough

Tear troughs, or the hollows that occur under the lower eyelid, can also be filled with dermal fillers. They help to smooth the transition between the lower eyelids and the cheek, and therefore reducing the appearance of under eye hollows and/or fatty bulges.

Lip Augmentation
One of the most popular uses for dermal filler is lip enhancement. Dermal fillers can be finessed into the border of the lips to enhance the definition of the cupid’s bow or in the body of the lips to augment lip volume and pout. We use a fillers specially suited for the lips; ones with a soft and malleable nature. This way it will last longer and not put you at risk of the dreaded ‘trout pout’ or ‘duck’ look.

Nose Reshaping

Other commonly treated areas with fillers include nose reshaping for those who do not want to undergo surgery, and also just under the eyebrows to give an eyebrow lift or to fill out any hollows there. Dermal fillers correct bumps on the nose as well as lift the nose tip.

Facial Contour
Cheeks and marionette lines, or the lines that go from the corners of the mouth to the corners of the nose can be filled. There are several options for use on this area, though Radiesse tends to last longer. Although more expensive, Radiesse tends to create more volume lifting of the fold, and lasts longer. Another great filler is Ellanse, which is safe and last for a number of years.

Finer Lines

Finer lines are usually harder to fill with dermal fillers, and require finer fillers. A skin resurfacing treatment may optimise the filler treatments as part of a comprehensive approach to reducing fine lines. Popular for fine lines around the mouth, known as smokers lines.
