The latest on firming up the “drop zone”…

Open Evening

at: the Clinic

Thanks for coming…

Open evening with canopies at the clinic

Last month we held an open night at Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic. A great night was had by all and we were able to answer many of your questions. Thank you for all the “loyal clients” for coming and joining us. It was sure a chance to see Dr Kahlout in a dickie bow, he talked about latest treatments for the drop zone on the face.

Maggie was so generous she invited everyone for dinner at the Vue Restaurant around the corner. The Champaign went too much into her head, only kidding, ‘cos Maggie doesn’t drink.

We hope to do it again in the near future….

we hope you enjoy the contents…..

Until the next time,

Dr Hazem Kahlout

Firming up the JAWLINE…

drop zone facial volume restoration

When you reach your early 40s, you may notice you have a “drop zone on the face” i.e., the skin between your neck and jaw, which was once a taut right angle, is now simply dropping. The aging jaw and neck are a challenge. Problems not only include sagging muscles and bulging fat, but also dealing with the thinnest, most wrinkle prone skin on the body (except for eyelid skin). To make matters worse, a thin ropey material called platysma tends to split into a V-like formation of protruding cords.

liposuction, lasers, lifts or injections for the drop zone on the face?

Trying to fix all of that with potions and lotions is like waging a two-front war on a sheet of thin ice. To enhance drop zone on the face, we recommend having an assessment first in order to quantify the problem. Choices of treatment include a minimally invasive minilift for women in their early to mid-40s who are not ready for a facelift. The miniLift supports sagging muscles crosswise to the jaw to restore that all-important right angle. Compared with a J-Plasty, there are no external sutures, there is less pulling and recovery time is much shorter. For loose skin around the neck, liposuction is also a good solution.

You’ll need the help of a registered cosmetic doctor to find the right fix.

Plastic surgeons interviewed by W were almost uniformly sceptical of trendier devices, such as Thermage, Ulthera and Titan, which deliver radio frequency, ultrasound and infrared lasers to stimulate collagen growth in the drop zone on the face.. The surgeons said these devices don’t deliver enough energy to have a substantial effect.

But a new radiofrequency device, AntiLax, has been getting some good reviews. It delivers heat via infrared laser and radiofrequency energies directly into the deep dermis, boosting collagen and elastin in the drop zone on the face.. One doctor claimed results are equal to about one third of a facelift.

drop zone on the face and fat transfer

If you are unhappy with your jawline, find a seasoned professional to find the best treatment for you. An advanced treatment alternative treatment is injecting fat from the belly into the midface and jawline areas central to the drop zone on the face to provide extra volume and lift. This will include the bonus of your own stem cells. Extra stem cells are separated from the fat via centrifuge and then added, making the skin glow more and enhancing collagen.

VASER Lipo for neck & jawline

If your problem is double chins, we recommend VASER Lipo, which uses ultrasound to melt fat and tighten the skin. A compound called Belkyra (Kybella) is an injectable that dissolves the double chin with chemical enzymes.

Topic highlight of the week…

Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing has become a popular option for patients seeking to enhance the appearance of their skin. Unlike traditional laser peels, where effective results are associated with long periods of downtime, fractional CO2 laser technology offers a short-downtime solution for treating wrinkles, scars, pigment, and tone and texture.

New generation fractional devices like the ProUltra-C and Ultra-FX use ablative wavelengths of 10400 nm also called CO2 Lasers. CO2 Lasers are considered the gold standard for skin resurfacing. The results are far more predictable and the results are more dramatic. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sedation if desired.

The Technolgy

Fractional CO2 Laser Therapy is delivered by laser modalities that use 10400 nm wavelength energy to create microablated channels deep in the dermal tissue, covering only a fraction of the total surface area and leaving the surrounding skin intact for faster healing and increased comfort. The wound-healing process produce fibroblasts that generate new collagen, plumping the skin and dramatically correcting skin imperfections.

Unlike other lasers; ProUltra-C can instantly eliminate the damaged tissue, accounting for effective results in just 1 to 2 single-pass treatments. The downtime from the procedure is short, and patients can typically resume their normal activities and get back to work in only 3 to 4 days after the treatment.

Adjustable Treatment Settings for Optimal Drop Zone on the Face Outcomes

Penetration Depth

ProUltra-C laser allows us to select from a wide spectrum of treatment depths and densities, depending on the indications treated, the desired outcome and the patient’s tolerance of downtime. Use Light depth treatments for pigment, medium depth for fine lines and wrinkles, and deep for deep scars, acne scars, or deep wrinkles.

Coverage Density

Use low-density area coverage for more conservative, shorter-downtime treatments, and higher-density area coverage for more efficacious results or to reduce the number of treatment sessions. Furthermore the actual size of the MTZ can be as small as 0.2 mm thanks to its powerful micro-scanner.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing Indications

Indications for carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing include the following:

Under-eye loose skin

Upper lip deep lines

Acne

Surgical Scars

Traumatic Scars

Pigmented Lesions

Actinic & Solar Keratosis

Coarse Skin Texture

Skin Laxity

Skin Rejuvenation

Aging Prevention

Testimonials

“My name is Suzie and I’m a 48 year old woman with over active glands under my arms. I have been living with this condition for as long as I can remember. I thought my teenage years were challenging until I started to work in the public eye. Every single day of my life began this way. What am I going to wear? Very limited to black or white, the thought of wearing colours was unthinkable. I had a collection of 30 different underarm deodorants, not sure why, none of them worked. Never had a chance to finish getting dressed before I started to put tissue paper under my arms. The 30 minute drive to work was kind of refreshing, keeping my arms up and aiming the fan full blast trying to stay dry. Once at the office I kept my arms to my side, elbow anchored at my waist. A trip to the ladies room was necessary on the hour to replace the tissue paper and try to squeeze a few seconds under the hand dryer without being seen.

About 2 years ago, while waiting at the doctor’s office I noticed a brochure with a baby pink t-shirt on it. First thought that came to mind, I wish I could wear something like this. The brochure was about Hyperhidrosis, needless to say I had all the symptoms and the brochure was telling me it was treatable with Botox. I had heard about Botox but did not know much about it.

I was curious and I started to do some research on line. I found Castleknock Cosmetic Clinic. I needed to know if what I had read could be true. A few days later, Dr Kahlout evaluated me and he confirmed my diagnosis. I could be treated with Botox injections lasting 6-7 months or longer, everybody’s different. I was stunned…

Two weeks later I found myself back at the clinic on a Wednesday afternoon for my first treatment. Not sure what to expect, I was apprehensive and very sceptical. All went well, not to say that I enjoyed it but the injections were tolerable. I noticed a small change by Friday but Saturday, all day I kept looking and dabbing my armpit with tissue paper…repeating to myself “are you kidding me”.

I was dry for the first time and stayed dry for nine months.

This treatment gave me my life back and opened a new world to me. The following Monday, back at work one of my colleagues said to me, you look different, what did you do? I smiled, I was wearing “colour”. I treated myself to the prettiest baby pink t-shirt.
